PROCRASTINATION

PROCRASTINATION

I have put off writing this for a long time (hahaha).

I tend to look at the whole daunting process of researching, writing, editing, finding the picture, and finally sending it out…

…as an overall huge undertaking

…so consequently piddle away the time doing

ANYTHING ELSE under the sun that enters my mind…

The Bible may not use the word, “PROCRASTINATION”, but it directly addresses “DELAY”, “LAZINESS”, and “PUTTING OFF WHAT ONE OUGHT TO DO”

·         Pr20:4BSB “THE SLACKER does not plow in season; at harvest time he looks, but nothing is there.”

·         2Tim4:5TLB “Leave nothing undone that you OUGHT TO DO.”

·         Jas4:17NIV “If anyone, then, knows the good they OUGHT TO DO and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”

·         Pr14:23ESV “In all toil there is profit, but MERE TALK tends only to poverty.”

In our modern culture, we think we need to “FEEL IT” in order to act.

We wait for inspiration to strike… the anxiety to pass… or the perfect moment where we suddenly FEEL "ready."

But the ancient Japanese Samurai culture operated completely opposite. They lived by a concept called, “Mushin”, or "no mind." It means moving before the brain has time to generate doubt, fear, or excuses. If you hesitate for longer than 60 seconds, your brain will inevitably convince you to stay comfortable.

Harvard University concluded in a study on this “Samurai Mental Loop” that it destroys procrastination:

1.      Shrink the Dragon:

Instead of writing the entire project, commit to writing one sentence. Your brain views the whole task as a massive threat and immediately shuts down. Shrink the task until it is so laughably small that your brain stops resisting the effort.

2.      The Physics

The psychological friction IS ALWAYS IN THE STARTING

…never in the doing.

Once you start, physics takes over:

“An object in motion tends to stay in motion…

an object at rest tends to stay at rest.”

Whatever YHWH has set our hands to do… shouldn't we be quick to do?

·         Col3:23-24BSB “WHATEVER YOU DO, work at it with your whole being,

AS FOR THE LORD and not for men, because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

·         Eccl9:10BSB “Whatever your hand finds to do, DO IT with all your might…”

·         1Cor6:19-20NKJV “… you are the temple of the Holy Spirit

                                You are not your own

You were bought with a price

Therefore… glorify God with your body”…

…your time… your thoughts… your words… and whatever you do.

Do what you say you will do.

Finish what you start.

Follow through!

NO MORE PROCRASTINATION!
