IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME
IN
REMEMBRANCE OF ME
Now… in
Lk22:19, when Jesus is sharing Passover telling the disciples to “do this IN
REMEMBRANCE OF ME”, is He wanting them to remember themselves and their performance?...
…or… is He wanting them to
remember Him?
Paul
recounts this Passover “communion” in 1Cor11:27-32…
…and the
literal Greek definitively reads with the intent of REMEMBERING CHRIST.
·
VS27:
Therefore, whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an “unworthy
manner” [To test and not value corresponding to the top of its worth]
will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
·
VS
28: But let a man “examine himself”, [Let each man,
himself, examine - put to the test to reveal what is genuine]
…and so let him eat of
the bread and drink of the cup.
·
VS29:
For he who eats and drinks in an “unworthy manner” [To test and not value corresponding to the top of its worth] eats and drinks judgment to himself,
not “discerning” [diakrinon - to separate and
investigate thoroughly all the parts… distinguishing amongst them and then judge]
…the Lord's body.
·
VS30:
FOR THIS REASON many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep (are
dead).
·
VS31:
For if we would JUDGE [diakrino – see above] ourselves, we would
not be judged.
LITERAL GREEK: “If FOR
OURSELVES we were judging…”
·
VS32:
But when we are “JUDGED” (krinomenoi – we are judging in a
continuos manner),
we are “CHASTENED” (paideuo- educated, instructed as a child
under development with strict training)
“BY” (hypo – under authority… working directly as a subordinate under)
…THE LORD,
that we may not be condemned with the world.”
This paints
a vivid picture that we are neither to be examining… nor judging… OURSELVES…
but rather…
·
EACH ONE OF US is
to examine “dokimazo” [to try (test) to show
something is acceptable (real, approved, genuine)]
FOR OURSELVES…
what was accomplished in the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
·
EACH ONE OF US is
to judge “diakrino” [to separate and investigate
thoroughly]
FOR OURSELVES…
the actual supreme value of what was completed in Christ, Himself.
Once we
esteem what HE FINISHED… AT THE TOP VALUE OF ITS WORTH…
THEN we
truly partake… as Christ said…
…IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.
