THE LIGHTHOUSE

 

 

The first LIGHTHOUSES were built long before the time of Christ. The earliest known reference appeared in Homer's epic Greek poem, “The Iliad” in 1200 BC.

 

 These rustic BEACONS were simple hilltop bonfires used to guide ships.

 

 

The first specific LIGHTHOUSE in recorded history was Egypt’s Pharos of Alexandria. Built around 280 BC, the source of LIGHT was a huge open fire at its summit.

As well as being the world’s first, it was also the tallest LIGHTHOUSE ever built… an amazing 450 feet high.

 

It is still considered one of the “Seven Wonders of the World”.

 

 

The Romans later built many, including Spain's Tower of Hercules, still standing as the world’s oldest functioning LIGHTHOUSE.

 

Built in the late 1st or early 2nd century, it stands 55 meters tall (180 feet) and has guided ships for nearly 2,000 years

 

 

A LIGHTHOUSE is built to guide ships to land… to port… to a safe channel …or to indicate dangerous rocks, reefs, or shorelines.

 

 

Darkness is the absence of LIGHT.

 

 

A LIGHT… no matter how small… dispels darkness and illuminates the path to safety and security.

 

 

Jesus said,

“I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD”

he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness,

but will have THE LIGHT OF LIFE.” (Jn8:12NASB95)

 

 

Eph5:8NASB95 “…you were formerly darkness, but now YOU ARE LIGHT IN THE LORD; walk as children of LIGHT”

 

 

Mtt5:14NKJV "YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.”

 

 

Isa60:1-3NKJV “ARISE, SHINE!

FOR YOUR LIGHT HAS COME

And THE GLORY of the LORD IS RISEN upon you.

For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,

And deep darkness the people;

But the LORD will ARISE over you, And HIS GLORY will be seen upon you.

The Gentiles shall come to YOUR LIGHT,

And kings to the BRIGHTNESS of your rising.

 

 

A LIGHTHOUSE doesn't chase ships. 

 

…It doesn't move...

 

…It is not shaken…. 

 

It just STANDS FAST where it is built and does what it was created to do…

…GIVE LIGHT…

... give hope and direction to ships

in the middle of their darkest hour

…or when tossed about by a storm. 

 

They are the single constant, immovable factor to which people look for stability and hope in a dark, ever changing and threatening environment.  

 

 

Be THE LIGHT you were created to be. 

 

…THE LIGHTHOUSE…

                                    …that calming assurance in someone else's stormy darkness.

FORMING YOUR WORLD

  Forming Your World     Have you been in a place in life where you feel like your world has no form, reason, nor rationale to it… like it is void of meaning or direction… and it seems like the darkness is so deep and thick that you not only can't see, but are so disoriented you have no clue as to which way is up?     How do you get out of THAT?     Gen1:1-2 describes just that scenario, but on a grand universal scale: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. CONVICTION

  CONVICTION   I have frequently heard the phrase, “the Holy Spirit CONVICTED me”… or… “I was CONVICTED by the Lord”.  As a young boy I was taught that God was this big eye in the sky continually watching to see if I was being good… and the Holy Spirit, being on my shoulder, would  speak in my ear to bring that guilt… shaming me back to the right path.the moment I stepped out of line   But… why did Jesus send the Holy Spirit to us?     In  Jn16:7 Christ calls the Holy Spirit “ THE COMFORTER ”. He uses the term, “ parakletos ”, which was used in NT times of an  attorney (lawyer)… someone  giving evidence that stands up in court .   It comes from two words: “ para ” (close-beside), and “ kaleo ” (make a call).
