WAGE VS GIFT

 

Most of us have always been taught that:

“You are entitled to NOTHING.”

“Nothing in life is free… you have to earn it!”

“No work… no gain”

 

The Bible even emphasizes, “…if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.” (2Th3:10NASB95)

 

As Paul, we have learned that “We work [for our living], working hard with our own hands.” (1Cor4:12AMP)

 

Knowing that “…God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” (Gal6:7NKJV)

 

You will only eat and gain anything from the Earth “…by the sweat of your brow" due to the curse through sin (Gen3:17-19NIV)

 

Because “The WAGES of sin is death…” (Rom6:23KJV)

 

The BibleHub Helps Word Studies shows that “WAGES” is translated from:

opsṓnion (from opson, "meat" and onemoai, "purchase")

properly, the purchase of meat (food);

later, "ration-money paid to soldiers" (BAGD);

hence, wages ("fitting compensation").

 

We have been taught that because YHWH is a just God, we are blessed with a fitting compensation to whatever deeds we have done… A WAGE.

We are blessed if we obey and cursed if we don't

We earn the WAGE, rewarded fittingly in just balance to the WORK we performed.

 

Even though “the WAGES of sin is death…”

       To complete Rom6:23 above: “…the GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”

 

“GIFT” - xárisma (from "grace," xáris) – properly, the operation of grace (divine favor)

(note the -ma suffix, focusing on the end-result of the endowment of grace).

So… a WAGE is exchanged for WORK PERFORMED as fitting compensation

…and a GIFT is something freely given (without merit)

as an end result of the work accomplished by the giver of the GIFT

 

We find that all that we have… and have become… are “…Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy” (Titus3:5KJV)

 

2Pe1:3KJV “His divine power has GIVEN to us ALL THINGS that pertain to life and godliness…”

 

All that Jesus Christ is…

…all that He accomplished on the cross and through His resurrection…

…and all of the promises by YHWH through Him that are now yes and amen (2Cor1:20)

ARE ALL A GIFT! (Jn3:16)

IT IS FINISHED! (Jn19:30)

 

There is nothing you can do to EARN Christ, or anything promised by or through Him.

 

A WAGE is earned…

                  A GIFT is not.

  Forming Your World     Have you been in a place in life where you feel like your world has no form, reason, nor rationale to it… like it is void of meaning or direction… and it seems like the darkness is so deep and thick that you not only can't see, but are so disoriented you have no clue as to which way is up?     How do you get out of THAT?     Gen1:1-2 describes just that scenario, but on a grand universal scale: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. CONVICTION

  CONVICTION   I have frequently heard the phrase, “the Holy Spirit CONVICTED me”… or… “I was CONVICTED by the Lord”.  As a young boy I was taught that God was this big eye in the sky continually watching to see if I was being good… and the Holy Spirit, being on my shoulder, would  speak in my ear to bring that guilt… shaming me back to the right path.the moment I stepped out of line   But… why did Jesus send the Holy Spirit to us?     In  Jn16:7 Christ calls the Holy Spirit “ THE COMFORTER ”. He uses the term, “ parakletos ”, which was used in NT times of an  attorney (lawyer)… someone  giving evidence that stands up in court .   It comes from two words: “ para ” (close-beside), and “ kaleo ” (make a call).
