THE FAITH OF THOMAS

THE FAITH OF THOMAS

In Mk6:30-44 Jesus feeds the 5000 with 5 loaves and 2 fish

In Mk8:1-9 Jesus feeds 4000 with 7 loaves and “a few small fish”

Immediately after this, Jesus and the disciples then went by boat to another region, where. There the Pharisees “…came out and began to argue with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, to test Him.

Sighing deeply in His spirit, He said, ‘Why does this generation seek for a sign?...’” (Mk8:11-12NASB95)

[why do they always need to SEE something more?]

After getting back in the boat to go to another place, the disciples discovered

“…they HAD FORGOTTEN to take bread,”

(they had only one loaf)

Thinking of that recent encounter, Jesus declared,

“…Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees…”

The disciples began discussing if Jesus stated that because they FORGOT BREAD. (Mk8:14-16)

“But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them,

‘Why do you reason because you have no bread?

Do you not yet PERCEIVE nor UNDERSTAND?

Is your heart still hardened?

Having EYES, do you not SEE?

And having EARS, do you not HEAR?

And do you not REMEMBER?’” (Mk8:14-18NKJV)

Ahhhh… how soon we FORGET!

We see the provision and power of YHWH time after time…

…then find ourselves in almost the same situation…

And become “like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and IMMEDIATELY FORGETS...” (Jas1:23-24NKJV)

Mtt22:29KJV “Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.”

We FORGET…

…and become like the Pharisees, demanding another sign…

…or like Thomas stating,

·        “UNLESS I SEE in His hands the imprint of the nails,

·       put my finger into the place of the nails,

·       put my hand into His side,

·       I will not believe.” (Jn20:25NASB95)

But even for Thomas…

…eight days after his demand, Jesus came…

                                    …INTO A LOCKED ROOM, NO LESS…

…and specifically allowed Thomas to fulfill all the things he previously stipulated would help him believe.

…No major rebuke… no shaming… no condemnation

…just allowing Thomas to alleviate his doubt.

And then said, “Thomas, because you have SEEN Me, you have believed.

Blessed are those who have NOT SEEN and yet have believed.” (Jn20:29NKJV)

Lk17:20NKJV - “The kingdom of God does not come with OBSERVATION;”

“Now FAITH IS

THE SUBSTANCE of things hoped for,

THE EVIDENCE OF THINGS NOT SEEN.” (Heb11:1NKJV)

We are no longer “haply feeling after Him” as a blind person trying to find Him.

…Because “He is not far from each one of us.” (Acts17:27NKJV)

(Mtt13:16NKJV)

“…blessed are YOUR EYES for they SEE,

and YOUR EARS for they HEAR
