THE GREAT STORM
THE GREAT STORM
In Mark 4 Christ has been teaching for awhile from a boat to a multitude gathered on the seashore.
He told a particular parable about a sower sowing the seed that when questioned by his disciples about its meaning He said, "Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?” (Mk4:13NKJV)
Aha!… A key to ALL the other parables He taught… a foundation to His way of thinking and instruction.
Then in Mk4:14-29 He unfolds a story about the Word of God, as a seed sown into four types of soil in a man (made from dust of the ground Gen2:7)
1. SIDE OF THE ROAD – where satan comes immediately to steal the Word
2. STONEY GROUND – receive the Word with joy, but have no root. When affliction and persecution comes for the Word’s sake… immediately they fall away
3. THORNY - heard the word, but worldly worries, deceitfulness of riches, and desires for other things choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
4. GOOD – Hear the Word, accept it… and it multiplies, bearing fruit.
When Christ is finished speaking He says to the disciples, “Let’s go over to the other side.” (Mk4:35)
Well… a GREAT STORM arises.
All aboard were afraid they were going to die… except Christ, who was sound asleep.
Why did a GREAT STORM come immediately following an in-depth teaching about hearing the Word sown and the soil types of man’s heart?
Eze13 speaks about a great wind sent to destroy walls we have built “daubed with untempered mortar”
Why?
So “the foundation thereof shall be discovered” (Eze13:14)
Mtt7:24 “Everyone who HEARS these words of Mine AND ACTS ON THEM, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Mtt7:26 “Everyone who HEARS these words of Mine AND DOES NOT ACT ON THEM, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.”
THEN… THE STORMS CAME TO BOTH HOUSES!
…One house stood… the other fell.
.
Back to Mk4:35-41
In a panic the disciples awakened Christ.
He arose, rebuked the wind and spoke to the sea, “Hush, be still!”
…and there was a great calm.
Then He said to them, “Why are you afraid? How is it that you have no faith?“
Why would Jesus ask that?
Well… What WORD had HE SAID when they first embarked?
“LET US GO OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE!”
He believed they were going to the other side… and was at rest with that!
SO… Whatever storm you are going through… whatever situation you are in… no matter what the circumstances… or how close your boat is to going down…
Are you going to act on what He says and believes?
HE is in your boat…
…and HE SAID,
“LET US GO OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE!”
