SPLITTING HEIRS
SPLITTING HEIRS
Rom8:16-17 “…We are children of God,
and if children…
…heirs of God
…and joint heirs with Christ…”
For some reason I always thought that “joint heirs with Christ” meant that He was inheriting a certain portion, and I inherited a certain portion assigned to me.
In other words… I believed we SPLIT the inheritance… Christ getting HIS allotment… and then somehow, whatever was designated as my allotment was given to me as deemed necessary.
However… the word translated “joint heir” [sugkléronomos] is a compound made up of:
1. sun: meaning… so closely identified together as completing one another
2. kleros: lot or portion … inheritance
SO… Christ and I complete one another and are so closely identified as to BE ONE, thus inheriting the fullness of the inheritance TOGETHER… with complete access… no “my portion”… no “my allotment”… no measuring out… NO SPLITTING HEIRS!
Remember the account of Peter, John, and the lame man at the “Beautiful Gate” of the temple in Acts 3?
Acts3:6 Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, BUT WHAT I DO HAVE I GIVE YOU: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk."
Peter understood He not only HAD the fulness of Christ and the totality of the infinite inheritance of the Kingdom of God, but was also able to impart that COMPLETE WHOLENESS on Earth as it is in Heaven to anyone else… because they are also a JOINT HEIR in Christ.
Peter declares, “The faith which comes through Christ has given the man this PERFECT SOUNDNESS.” (Acts3:16)
The phrase “PERFECT SOUNDNESS” is translated from a compound Greek word, “holokleros” made from:
· holos: totally complete, where all the parts are working as THE WHOLE
· kléros: lot, portion, inheritance [note: same root as “joint heir”]
1Thes5:23: "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved COMPLETE (holóklēros), without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ"
Js1:4: "And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and COMPLETE (holóklēros), lacking in nothing"
You have been brought wholly complete into the entirety of your inheritance.
Peter did not SPLIT his inheritance with the lame man
What he was freely given, he could freely give.
…in totality (Mtt10:8)
…imparting the man’s full inheritance!
As ONE IN CHRIST we are freely given…
…THE ENTIRE ALLOTMENT OF INFINITE ETERNAL INHERITANCE…
NOW…
FREELY GIVE IT!
