MORE THAN LIFE

 

 

There are THREE main kinds of LIFE mentioned in the Bible:

 

1.         [BIOS] LIFE – the way or manner of LIFE or livelihood

properly, God's gift of physical life, animating all creation "to LIVE and move and have its being" (Acts17:28)

 [bíos] is the root of the English term "biography," i.e. the record (account) of how we invested (or spent!) our physical lives.]

 

2Ti2:4 “No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this LIFE [bios]…”

 

2.         [ZOE]  LIFE  the actual vitality of all things living… whether plant or animal… sustained by God's self-existent LIFE…

 

Gen1:24  "Let the earth bring forth the LIVING [zosan – adj of zoe] creature according to its kind…”

 

Jn1:4 “In him was LIFE [zoe]; and the LIFE [zoe] was the light of men.”

 

Gen2:7 “The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of LIFE [zoe]; and man became a LIVING [zosan – adj of zoe] SOUL [psuche]  

 

3.         [PSUCHE] LIFE - a person's distinct identity, his “SOUL” - unique personhood, or individual personality with their mind, will, emotions, ambitions, desires, and goals

 

Mtt6:25 “…do not worry about your LIFE [psuche], what you will eat or what you will drink…”

 

Mtt16:26 “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own SOUL [psuche]? Or what will a man give in exchange for his SOUL [psuche]?

 

Lk17:33 “Whoever seeks to save his LIFE [psuche] will lose it, and whoever loses his LIFE [psuche] will preserve it.”

 

 

The consensus in the Christian world view is that “ZOE” LIFE is the pinnacle of our spiritual walk.

 

HOWEVER, let's consider what Christ said:

·       “I am the way and the truth and the LIFE [zoe]” (Jn14:6)

·       Jn10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have LIFE [zoe], and that they may have it MORE ABUNDANTLY.”

 

BUT… How does this ZOE MORE ABUNDANTLY happen?

 

Rom8:11 “…He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also QUICKEN [zoopoieo] YOUR MORTAL BODIES by His Spirit that dwells in you.”

 

QUICKEN - zóopoieó: To make alive, to give life, to quicken, cause to live, revitalize… to cause what is dead and inoperative to be infused and empowered with LIFE [ZOE]

 

Zoopoieo is MORE THAN LIFE [ZOE]

…Every cell is infused with RESURRECTION

…Every fiber of your mortal body revitalized… eternally… from now on!

It is not some LIFE we are trying to get in…

we are in… NOW…  in HIM!

 

it is HIM!

 

WE NOW LIVE…

Not in His death and burial…

BUT… WITH HIM…

…IN RESURRECTION!

FORMING YOUR WORLD

  Forming Your World     Have you been in a place in life where you feel like your world has no form, reason, nor rationale to it… like it is void of meaning or direction… and it seems like the darkness is so deep and thick that you not only can't see, but are so disoriented you have no clue as to which way is up?     How do you get out of THAT?     Gen1:1-2 describes just that scenario, but on a grand universal scale: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. CONVICTION

  CONVICTION   I have frequently heard the phrase, “the Holy Spirit CONVICTED me”… or… “I was CONVICTED by the Lord”.  As a young boy I was taught that God was this big eye in the sky continually watching to see if I was being good… and the Holy Spirit, being on my shoulder, would  speak in my ear to bring that guilt… shaming me back to the right path.the moment I stepped out of line   But… why did Jesus send the Holy Spirit to us?     In  Jn16:7 Christ calls the Holy Spirit “ THE COMFORTER ”. He uses the term, “ parakletos ”, which was used in NT times of an  attorney (lawyer)… someone  giving evidence that stands up in court .   It comes from two words: “ para ” (close-beside), and “ kaleo ” (make a call).
