NEW COVENANT CUP

 

So often I have taken “communion” just going through the motions, not realizing the full extent of the value invested in the meaning behind the bread and the wine… especially the wine… or “THE CUP”.

I guess I have lightly passed over the fact that Jesus said, “THIS CUP IS THE NEW COVENANT [ratified and established] IN MY BLOOD .” (1Cor11:25;Mtt26:28;Mk14:24;Lk22:20 AMP)

 

THIS IS A BLOOD COVENANT

SEALED WITH THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST

FOREVER (Heb13:20AMP)

FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS (MTT26:28)

 

THE REMISSION!!!  

áphesis - properly, "something sent away"

…a letting go,

a release,

a pardon,

COMPLETE FORGIVENESS…

releasing someone from obligation or debt.

 

This is unlike the FIRST COVENANT, where “…in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.” (Heb10:4;9:12-14)

For “…EVERY priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.” (Heb10:11)

 

BUT…

“…when he had by himself PURGED our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” (Heb1:3)

“…and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places IN Christ Jesus,” (Eph2:5-6)

“…now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been MADE NIGH by the blood of Christ.” (Eph2:13)

 

“For this reason HE is the Mediator and Negotiator of a NEW COVENANT [that is, an entirely new agreement uniting God and man], so that those who have been called [by God] may receive [the fulfillment of] the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has taken place [as the payment] which redeems them from the sins committed under the obsolete first covenant.” (Heb9:15)

 

According to Col2:23-15 HE HAS NOW:

·       made us alive together with Him

·       forgiven us of ALL trespasses

·       wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us

·       taken ordinances and laws out of the way, having nailed them to the cross.

·       disarmed and triumphed over principalities and powers… making a public spectacle of them

 

SO…

1Cor11:25AMP “…when supper was ended, He took the cup, saying,

‘THIS CUP IS THE NEW COVENANT

[ratified (sealed) and established] IN MY BLOOD.

Do this, as often as you drink [it],

to [affectionately] remember ME.’”

  Forming Your World     Have you been in a place in life where you feel like your world has no form, reason, nor rationale to it… like it is void of meaning or direction… and it seems like the darkness is so deep and thick that you not only can't see, but are so disoriented you have no clue as to which way is up?     How do you get out of THAT?     Gen1:1-2 describes just that scenario, but on a grand universal scale: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. CONVICTION

  CONVICTION   I have frequently heard the phrase, “the Holy Spirit CONVICTED me”… or… “I was CONVICTED by the Lord”.  As a young boy I was taught that God was this big eye in the sky continually watching to see if I was being good… and the Holy Spirit, being on my shoulder, would  speak in my ear to bring that guilt… shaming me back to the right path.the moment I stepped out of line   But… why did Jesus send the Holy Spirit to us?     In  Jn16:7 Christ calls the Holy Spirit “ THE COMFORTER ”. He uses the term, “ parakletos ”, which was used in NT times of an  attorney (lawyer)… someone  giving evidence that stands up in court .   It comes from two words: “ para ” (close-beside), and “ kaleo ” (make a call).
