20/20 VISION
20/20 VISION
They say, “hindsight is 20/20”.
Is it because as we get older, we tend to accidentally SIT ON OUR GLASSES more frequently?
The phrase is often used to describe the idea that things are easier to SEE more clearly AFTER they have happened.
BUT, "You can't drive forward if you keep looking in the rearview mirror. That's why the windshield is huge, so look forward". (Steve Harvey)
With all Jesus did to give the disciples the VISION of what was coming in John 13-17, in Chapter 20 the disciples were still reeling from the crucifixion of Jesus. They were LOOKING BACK in sorrow, SEEING things only in light of THEIR CONCEPT of what a king was and what his kingdom would be.
It was the end of an era… They had lost the battle… Their leader was gone… NOW WHAT?
They were so FOCUSED on the past and their expectations, they could not SEE their way into the future.
20:20 John: Jesus APPEARED to them, “…He SHOWED them His hands and His side. When the disciples SAW the Lord, they were filled with great joy.”
That joy lasted for a moment… until they didn't SEE him anymore.
And… Some of them even returned to their old way of life (Jn21:3)
They couldn't SEE Jesus in what the future had in store for them.
20:20 2Chronicles “…Believe and trust in the LORD your God and you will be established (secure)...”
Pr29:18 “Where there is no VISION, the people perish.”
Faith is that place from which you SEE all of life…
…seated with Him (Eph2:6)
…He came to “Open the blind EYES” (Isa42:1-9)
(Mtt6:22-23;Lk11:33-36) “The lamp of the body is the EYE.
If therefore your EYE is single,
your whole body will be full of light.
But if your EYE is bad (diseased, blind, evil)
your whole body will be full of darkness…”
single - literally, "without folds", referring to a clear, single (undivided) FOCUS, i.e. without a (secret) "double agenda".
Peter started out “ok” walking on the water to Jesus… but… he shifted FOCUS to the storm and lost the singular clarity of VISION on Christ.
Mtt14:30 “But SEEING the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!"
Restore your 20/20 VISION!
“LOOKING UNTO JESUS the author and finisher of our faith...” (Heb12:2)
Jn12:21 “Sir, we would SEE JESUS!”
