After all the disciples had seen Jesus do…

…after Jesus had sent them out, giving them authority to heal the sick and cast out devils (Mtt10:8;Mk3:15)

 

The disciples were having a difficult time healing an epileptic child. (Mtt17:14-21)

The demon would not leave.

 

When approached by the child's father, Jesus simply rebuked the demon and it left… “…the child was cured from that very hour.” (Matt17:18)

 

When the disciples asked why they could not cast it out, Jesus gave them two reasons:

1.        “Because of your unbelief”

[Unbelief:  oligópistos - olígos, "little in number, low in quantity" and pístis, "faith"]

He continues: “if you have faith as a mustard seed…

(the smallest of all seeds but yet grows into a tree, the largest of all the garden herbs. Mtt13:31-32)

…you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move;

and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Galatians 2:20 “…the life which I now live in the flesh I live by

the faith

of

the Son of God…” (I am resurrected IN Christ and now live by HIS faith)

 

2.        "This kind does not come out except by prayer and fasting" (Mtt17:21;Mk9:29)

Fasting – nésteia: - to go without food, fast (not “to go without fast food”), voluntary abstinence from food

Prayer - Proseuche: - Through communion with our Father we exchange our thoughts, ambitions, goals, desires, and will…

…laying down our life (psuche:- SOUL – mind, will, emotions)

FOR HIS!

 

NOTE:  EVERY TIME Jesus went…

·       off alone…

·       to the mountain…

·       into the desert…

·       apart…

·       or in the Garden of Gethsemane…

TO PRAY…

It is the word “proseuchomai”… the verb form of the noun proseuche.

The disciple had never encountered this transformative intimate communication they saw daily modeled in Jesus.

So… as He was returning from one such encounter (Lk11:1-2),

they asked…

LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY… “proseuchomai”

 

 

…IT IS THE GREAT EXCHANGE!

 

 

Your Father desires that intimate relationship.

 

Now that you've spent that intimate time exchanging your wishes, ambitions, desires, and goals for your Father’s heart... and you have even done this to the point of going without food, because the relationship was more important...

You have HIS heart on the matter...

You have the mind of Christ...

NOW...

...cast THIS KIND out!

  Forming Your World     Have you been in a place in life where you feel like your world has no form, reason, nor rationale to it… like it is void of meaning or direction… and it seems like the darkness is so deep and thick that you not only can't see, but are so disoriented you have no clue as to which way is up?     How do you get out of THAT?     Gen1:1-2 describes just that scenario, but on a grand universal scale: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. CONVICTION

  CONVICTION   I have frequently heard the phrase, “the Holy Spirit CONVICTED me”… or… “I was CONVICTED by the Lord”.  As a young boy I was taught that God was this big eye in the sky continually watching to see if I was being good… and the Holy Spirit, being on my shoulder, would  speak in my ear to bring that guilt… shaming me back to the right path.the moment I stepped out of line   But… why did Jesus send the Holy Spirit to us?     In  Jn16:7 Christ calls the Holy Spirit “ THE COMFORTER ”. He uses the term, “ parakletos ”, which was used in NT times of an  attorney (lawyer)… someone  giving evidence that stands up in court .   It comes from two words: “ para ” (close-beside), and “ kaleo ” (make a call).
