PEACE IS AN UMPIRE
PEACE IS AN UMPIRE
Have you ever found yourself at a crossroads in life, trying to decide which direction to go? …what road to take? …waffling between two or more opinions and can never seem to settle with finality just the right option… because nothing seems clear?
Peter found himself in a similar situation during a storm in his life.
He was screaming in terror, not sure what was walking on the water toward the boat amidst all the tumult.
Jesus immediately called out, “Take courage! I AM! Stop being afraid!” (Mtt14:27)
Much the same as we do, Peter, still unsure, says, “Lord, if that IS YOU…” and then requests something that would let him know for sure: “…tell me to come to you on the water.” (Mtt14:28)
Jesus said, “come!”
Now remember… Peter was a fisherman.
Fishermen don't usually step out of a boat during a storm in the middle of the sea.
The boat is their comfort zone… their place of safety… their security in an unstable environment.
“You will keep him in PERFECT PEACE, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” (Isa26:3NKJV)
While walking on the water, Peter became aware of everything surrounding him and cried for help.
“Instantly Jesus reached out His hand and caught and held him, saying, ‘O you of little faith, why did you DOUBT?’” (Mtt14:31AMPC)
DOUBT - distázō (from dís, "two, double" and stásis, "stance, standing") – properly: choosing "a double-stance" shifting between positions… and hence vacillate (waver); (figuratively) uncertain at a crossroad because refusing to choose one way over the other – to halt between two opinions (views, beliefs).
Jesus is “THE PRINCE OF PEACE” (Isa9:6)
Where He rules… “Of the increase of His government and of PEACE there shall be no end” (Isa9:7)
He doesn't want you to make a list and check it twice.
That is the Tree of The Knowledge of Good and Evil.
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (Jn14:27)
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the PEACE of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Phil4:6-7)
Go to the Tree of Life… CHRIST!
HE IS OUR PEACE! (Eph2:14)
…decide by what is life and PEACE.
Col3:15AMPC “And LET the PEACE (soul harmony which comes) from Christ
RULE (ACT AS AN UMPIRE CONTINUALLY) IN YOUR HEARTS
[deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ's] one body you were also called [to live].”
