RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH
RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH
2Tim2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH.”
We have a rough time destroying the old mindset of earning approval or favor of Our Heavenly Father and end up with a confusing mixture… viewing everything through a veil of servitude and performance… trying to prove that we are righteous, holy and somehow worthy to have God listen and approve.
But let's take a closer look at this verse.
· STUDY
2Tim2:15 is the only place “spoudazo” is translated “study”.
Paul used “spoudazo” to compel Timothy and Titus to “… be diligent to come to me…” (Titus3:12;2Tim4:9,21)
Spoudazo means to make haste (be speedy), to be earnest or diligent, to make prompt effort.
· TO SHOW THYSELF
Notice it says, “TO SHOW THYSELF” …not “show God”
The words “TO SHOW” is, “parastesai”, which is an imperative form of the word “paristemi”, making it a command or demand.
“parastesai”: A WORD PICTURE – to cause to be present and stand so close, that when you leave, you take HIS presence with you”
· THYSELF - The literal translation: “you focus back on how all the action done relates to you”
· APPROVED - genuinely received, validated and approved… having passed all scrutiny and tests
· UNTO GOD
The Greek article attached to the noun “THEOS” (GOD) emphasizes the strength of energy with which the subject (GOD) interacts alongside
· A WORKMAN – a laborer
· THAT NEEDETH NOT TO BE ASHAMED
anepaisxyntos ("not disgraced"), used ONLY in 2Tim2:15…
directly refers to the (positive) result of…
· RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH
cutting straight and correctly apportioning TRUTH’S WORD – the very thought, intent, purpose and motive behind what TRUTH, HIMSELF, said and did.
SO…
“NOW… accurately dividing and apportioning TRUTH’S WORD,
you have quickly shown YOURSELF
that YOU are already approved by God…
due to the active force of His nearness…
you are an unashamed co-laborer with HIM…
“…always having all sufficiency in all things, [that you] may abound to every good work.” (2Cor9:8)
Knowing that because you stand so close to HIM…
wherever you go…
YOU TAKE HIS PRESENCE WITH YOU!”
