Intentional Listening




INTENTIONAL LISTENING. 

 

 

“I was so poor I couldn’t even pay attention!”

 

 

As I have gotten older, I realize how poor I am at communication. It is not so much that I lack in articulating what I think to a recipient, but rather how bereft I am in my willingness to lay down my SELF… and actually LISTEN… ON PURPOSE!

I often fail to heed the intent of the other person and consequently miss their heart. 

 

 

“He who answers a matter before he HEARS it (listen intently to understand),

it is folly and shame to him.” (Pr18:13).

 

 

“There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is WITHOUT SIGNIFICATION (lacking in meaning, voiceless, mute).

Therefore, if I know not the MEANING OF THE VOICE…

I shall be unto him that speaks a barbarian, 

and he that speaks shall be a barbarian unto me.” (1Cor14:10-11)

 

The Greek word translated “meaning” is DUNAMIS: - “miraculous ability, mighty (wonderful) work, strength, POWER”

 

 

If I don’t understand the meaning or POWER behind your voice, I am like a primitive foreigner and will not understand anything you intend to communicate. 

 

 

Made in the likeness and image of our Creator/Father there is power behind what we speak.  

The words we speak have the miraculous ability to create and reproduce after HIS likeness and image.

 

 

“It is the Spirit who gives life; 

the flesh profits nothing; 

the words that I speak to you are spirit and life.” (Jn6:63)

 

 

From the spirit of which kingdom did these words originate?

 

 

We listen for “the meaning” of the voice… 

the motive, power, or heart behind the speech... 

especially when communicating with our Father.

 

 

Christ is the WORD (Jn 1:1-14) 

The Greek word used here is “logos”: - “the very thought, intent, purpose, and motive BEHIND WHAT IS SPOKEN!”

 

 

“He sent his WORD [Septuagint:- “logos”], and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” (Ps107:20)

 

 

If we heed the very thought, intent, purpose and motive behind what our Father speaks, 

not only are we healed, 

but also delivered from ALL OUR DESTRUCTIONS. 

 

 

SO…

 

 

We Intentionally listen for the MEANING behind what is spoken,

In order to encounter Christ in them…

what HE has instilled in the heart of that person, 

in order to have communion… 

a mutual contribution of life… 

and that more abundantly.

FORMING YOUR WORLD

  Forming Your World     Have you been in a place in life where you feel like your world has no form, reason, nor rationale to it… like it is void of meaning or direction… and it seems like the darkness is so deep and thick that you not only can't see, but are so disoriented you have no clue as to which way is up?     How do you get out of THAT?     Gen1:1-2 describes just that scenario, but on a grand universal scale: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. CONVICTION

  CONVICTION   I have frequently heard the phrase, “the Holy Spirit CONVICTED me”… or… “I was CONVICTED by the Lord”.  As a young boy I was taught that God was this big eye in the sky continually watching to see if I was being good… and the Holy Spirit, being on my shoulder, would  speak in my ear to bring that guilt… shaming me back to the right path.the moment I stepped out of line   But… why did Jesus send the Holy Spirit to us?     In  Jn16:7 Christ calls the Holy Spirit “ THE COMFORTER ”. He uses the term, “ parakletos ”, which was used in NT times of an  attorney (lawyer)… someone  giving evidence that stands up in court .   It comes from two words: “ para ” (close-beside), and “ kaleo ” (make a call).
