The word “MISSIONARY” is not in the Bible. 

 

 

The word “MISSION” originated in 1598 when Jesuits, members of the Society of Jesus, SENT members abroad, deriving the word from the Latin “MISSIONEM” (nom. missio), meaning “ACT OF SENDING” or “MITTERE”, meaning “TO SEND”. (Etymology Dictionary).

All substitute the word “MISSIONARY” for the word “apostle” or “sent one”. 

 

 

WHY?

 

 

I have no clue. 

 

 

But whole ministries are built around it now… with ordinations, titles, and teachings centered around missionary “callings”… missionary support… missionary culture immersion… missionary teams… and missionary life…

 

…finding our identity once again in something other than simply being a son of God LED by the Spirit of God. (Rom8:14)

 

 

WHERE HE LEADS ME 

I WILL FOLLOW

WHAT HE FEEDS ME

I WILL SWALLOW

 

 

Jesus, Himself, understood this and said:

 

Jn5:30

“I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath SENT ME.”

 

Jn5:36

“…the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath SENT ME.”

 

 

Jn6:38

“I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that SENT ME.”

 

 

Jn20:21-23 

“Then said Jesus unto them,

‘Peace be unto you: 

as my Father hath SENT ME, 

EVEN SO SEND I YOU. 

And when he had said this, 

he breathed on them, 

and saith…

Receive ye the Holy Ghost: 

Whose soever sins ye remit, 

they are remitted unto them; 

and whose soever sins ye retain, 

they are retained’.”

 

 

Mtt28:18-20 

“Jesus came and said, 

‘All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 

GO YE THEREFORE, and

·       teach all nations, 

·       baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 

·       Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:

behold, 

I am with you 

all the days 

until the completion of the age.’”

FORMING YOUR WORLD

  Forming Your World     Have you been in a place in life where you feel like your world has no form, reason, nor rationale to it… like it is void of meaning or direction… and it seems like the darkness is so deep and thick that you not only can't see, but are so disoriented you have no clue as to which way is up?     How do you get out of THAT?     Gen1:1-2 describes just that scenario, but on a grand universal scale: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. CONVICTION

  CONVICTION   I have frequently heard the phrase, “the Holy Spirit CONVICTED me”… or… “I was CONVICTED by the Lord”.  As a young boy I was taught that God was this big eye in the sky continually watching to see if I was being good… and the Holy Spirit, being on my shoulder, would  speak in my ear to bring that guilt… shaming me back to the right path.the moment I stepped out of line   But… why did Jesus send the Holy Spirit to us?     In  Jn16:7 Christ calls the Holy Spirit “ THE COMFORTER ”. He uses the term, “ parakletos ”, which was used in NT times of an  attorney (lawyer)… someone  giving evidence that stands up in court .   It comes from two words: “ para ” (close-beside), and “ kaleo ” (make a call).
