Submit and Resist


 

Most discussions on spiritual warfare usually contain the passage of 2Cor10:3-5 


“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

 

Note the last phrase:  “to the obedience of Christ”


It continues in verse 6…


"AND having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled."

 


Obeying orders is necessary in any war situation.

 


It is amazing to me how many people run around trying to minister to people with addictions, who are addicted to something themselves…

…it is the same spirit regardless of the addiction!

That spirit will not cast out itself. 


We usually quote a portion of Jas4:7 "...Resist the devil, and he will flee"... 

but conveniently leave out the entire first section of this key verse of spiritual warfare... 

" Submit yourselves therefore to God. ..."  

THEN…

“…Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

 

SUBMIT – hupotassomai

·       Hupo - come under

·       Tasso - the orderly arrangement or fashion

 

So... find the orderly arrangement and fashion HE has for YOUR life – 

let YOUR obedience be fulfilled in what HE has ordered for you.... 

THEN... 

RESIST [anthistemi - stand against (very similar to an antihistamine)] the devil 

and he will flee.

 

 

The centurion understood this principle, stating to Christ in Mt8:8-9  

"...but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. 

1)    For I am a man UNDER AUTHORITY,

2)    having soldiers under me: 

3)    and I say to this man, Go, and he goes; 

and to another, Come, and he comes; 

and to my servant, Do this, and he does it."

 

Jesus responds, " I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel."

The centurion understood authority…

…Jesus called it faith. 

 

If you are UNDER the authority of The Kingdom, 

 

…fitting in the place for which you were formed and fashioned by God IN CHRIST JESUS…

 

THEN…

 

…sent by HIM…

 

you may operate IN ALL THE AUTHORITY of The King

FORMING YOUR WORLD

  Forming Your World     Have you been in a place in life where you feel like your world has no form, reason, nor rationale to it… like it is void of meaning or direction… and it seems like the darkness is so deep and thick that you not only can't see, but are so disoriented you have no clue as to which way is up?     How do you get out of THAT?     Gen1:1-2 describes just that scenario, but on a grand universal scale: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. CONVICTION

  CONVICTION   I have frequently heard the phrase, “the Holy Spirit CONVICTED me”… or… “I was CONVICTED by the Lord”.  As a young boy I was taught that God was this big eye in the sky continually watching to see if I was being good… and the Holy Spirit, being on my shoulder, would  speak in my ear to bring that guilt… shaming me back to the right path.the moment I stepped out of line   But… why did Jesus send the Holy Spirit to us?     In  Jn16:7 Christ calls the Holy Spirit “ THE COMFORTER ”. He uses the term, “ parakletos ”, which was used in NT times of an  attorney (lawyer)… someone  giving evidence that stands up in court .   It comes from two words: “ para ” (close-beside), and “ kaleo ” (make a call).
