Since You Believed


 

SINCE YOU BELIEVED

 

 

Acts19:1–6  “Paul… came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said, 

‘Have you received the Holy Ghost 

SINCE YOU BELIEVED?’

And they said, ‘We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.’

 

And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.”

 

 

Jn1:33 “…he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

 

 

Mtt3:11–12(Lk3:16;Mk1:8; Jn1:33)  

“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: 

he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, 

and with fire…” 

 

 

Acts1:5  “For John truly baptized with water; 

but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”

 

 

Acts1:8–9  “But you shall receive POWER, 

AFTER the Holy Ghost is come upon you: 

and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

 

 

Acts10:44–48  “While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.  

And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished… because the gift of the Holy Ghost was also poured out on the Gentiles.  

For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. 

Then answered Peter, 

‘Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?’

And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.”

 

 

 

Remember… 

 

…this was all relatively new to the disciples. They did not have multiple decades to formulate doctrines on how things should or should not happen… or why. 

 

 

Even though in 1Cor14:40 Paul admonished early believers moving by The Holy Spirit, 

“Let all things be done decently and in order.”…

 

 

…We might do well to remember that Holy Spirit is there to:

·       Manifest (1Cor12:7)

·       Represent Jesus Christ (Jn15:26)

·       Lead you into all truth (Jn16:13)

·       Show you things to come (Jn16:13)

·       Confirm the Word with signs following (Mk16:20)

 

 

… and that is not always according to our doctrine.

FORMING YOUR WORLD

  Forming Your World     Have you been in a place in life where you feel like your world has no form, reason, nor rationale to it… like it is void of meaning or direction… and it seems like the darkness is so deep and thick that you not only can't see, but are so disoriented you have no clue as to which way is up?     How do you get out of THAT?     Gen1:1-2 describes just that scenario, but on a grand universal scale: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. CONVICTION

  CONVICTION   I have frequently heard the phrase, “the Holy Spirit CONVICTED me”… or… “I was CONVICTED by the Lord”.  As a young boy I was taught that God was this big eye in the sky continually watching to see if I was being good… and the Holy Spirit, being on my shoulder, would  speak in my ear to bring that guilt… shaming me back to the right path.the moment I stepped out of line   But… why did Jesus send the Holy Spirit to us?     In  Jn16:7 Christ calls the Holy Spirit “ THE COMFORTER ”. He uses the term, “ parakletos ”, which was used in NT times of an  attorney (lawyer)… someone  giving evidence that stands up in court .   It comes from two words: “ para ” (close-beside), and “ kaleo ” (make a call).
