Let Your Words Be Few
Let Your Words Be Few
“If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God… that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ…” (1Pet4:11)
Ecclesiastes 5:1-3 outlines how to process what to say
1. “Guard your steps as you go to the house of God”
In Jesus Christ “ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.” (Eph2:20-22)
Approaching people…
- not the building…
2. “…and approach to listen”
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Rom8:14)
“…therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.” (Eze3:17;33:7)
“Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.” (Pr20:5)
3. “…rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools;
for they do not know that they are doing evil.”
“A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.” (Pr29:11)
In “many words there is also vanity...” (Eccl5:7NKJV)
4. “…Do not be quick with your mouth or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God.”
“Wherefore… let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.” (Jas1:19)
5. “…For God is in heaven and you are on the earth;”
“I have not spoken of myself… even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.” (Jn12:49-50)
6. “…therefore let your words be few…”
“The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season...” (Isa50:4)
“…The words of the wise are like goads (cattle prods) and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd.” (Eccl12:8-11)
7. “…For the dream comes through much effort, and the voice of a fool through many words.”
“One who withholds his words has knowledge…
…Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise...” (Pr17:27-28)
“When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable…
…But he who restrains his lips is wise.” (Pr10:19-20)
“…how delightful is a timely word!” (Pr15:23)
