Be Not Dismayed

DISMAYED

“… Be strong and of a good courage;

be not afraid,

neither be thou dismayed

for the LORD thy God is with thee

whithersoever thou goest”

 (Josh 1:9).

The Hebrew word translated, “dismayed”, is used multiple times throughout the Old Testament.

It means:  to break down and prostrate, either by violence, confusion, or fear.

It is intended to paint a mental image of something causing you to prostrate yourself,

immobilized by intimidation… with no ability to stand.

It is also translated as:

abolish,

discourage,

Beat down,

Scare,

Broken down

Terrify,

Amaze,

Etc…

Apparently, the intent of the enemy is to break you down so far that you simply lay down and give up.

“Therefore their inhabitants were of small power

[very little dominion or force, as though only able to use less dominant hand],

they were dismayed

and confounded:

they were as the grass of the field,

and as the green herb,

as the grass on the housetops,

and as corn blasted before it be grown up”

(Isa 37:27)

So, your Father reminds you that regardless of what you see, even in the face of overwhelming odds or circumstances, don’t let yourself get to the point of figuring it is hopeless or useless to fight… and lay down.

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” (Isa 41:10)

“…be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words… nor be dismayed at their looks…” (Ezekiel 2:6; 3:9)

“Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him” (2Chron 32:7)

SO…

 “Be on the alert,

stand firm in the faith,

act like men,

be strong.

(1Cor 16:13 NASB)

“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God,

that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day,

and having done all,

TO STAND

STAND THEREFORE…”

(Eph 6:13-14)
