What’s That in Your Hand?
WHAT IS THAT IN YOUR HAND?
At some point in life we may feel we need to do something “greater” for our Heavenly Father. We desire to make a more definitive impact on people around us… even feeling compelled to seek out our “gifting” or “anointing” to better fit into what we picture as “building the Kingdom of God.”
Gifts and talents DO NOT make you a leader.
Hebrews 1:3 says of Jesus Christ that he was the “express image of the Father”. “EXPRESS IMAGE” is one Greek word:
Charakter
Yahweh sent a son AS A GIFT.
Yes, the current world is enamored by the flashiest gifts and talents….
But the Kingdom operates by CHARACTER. .
Paul told Timothy and Titus to ordain elders who were to shepherd (feed) and bishop (oversee) the flock of God. These leaders were to be men possessing certain character qualities….
And never mentions a gifting or talent…
except that they may be “apt to teach” (1 Tim 3:2; 2 Tim 2:24; see also 1 Pet 5:1-3)
Look at the life of Moses… one of the greatest leaders of Israel.
He started out life as a basket case.
He grew into a great gifted and talented young man trained in Pharaoh’s court.
When he thought he was coming into a place of leadership, he messed up… then ran away.
He spent the next 40 years in the wilderness following his father-in-law’s flocks.
When Yahweh, God decided it was time for Moses to lead, He had to shake Moses. .
He spoke to him out of a burning bush.
And Moses was still reluctant!
After all of the excuses, Yahweh finally asked Moses,
“WHAT IS THAT IN YOUR HAND?”
…basically saying, “this is all about ME.”
“I AM is with you.
You are no different spiritually than you are naturally.
I spent all these years working into you My character and nature.
I have worked IN YOU what is needed.
I AM not sending a great gift, talent, or anointing…
The gift I AM sending is YOU!”
SO… YOU…
RELAX…
WHAT IS THAT IN YOUR HAND?”
