Mental Assent

MENTAL ASSENT

as·sent

/əˈsent/

noun

the expression of approval or agreement.

SO, to be in “mental assent” I will agree or approve something as truth with my mind.

HOWEVER…

Because I have not seen nor experienced it in my life…

I conclude it does not work for me…

…though I MAY get it in the future.

I still believe it is true, but there are extenuating circumstances prohibiting it from manifesting in my life.

Hebrews 4:2 “For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached DID NOT PROFIT THEM, not being MIXED WITH FAITH in them that heard it.”

FAITH. – the substance of things HOPED FOR and evidence of things NOT SEEN. (Heb 11:1)

Faith is not a decision…

It is a place from which decisions are made…

… a perspective from which you see all of life.

Mental assent says, “I know ‘by his stripes I was healed’… BUT…”

Faith says, “NOW is the accepted time; behold, NOW is the day of salvation (2Cor 6:2)

NO “BUTS!”

Mental assent says, “don’t eat that, because…!”

Faith says, “my Father sanctified and blessed it, arise and eat!” (Acts11:1-10)

Mental assent says:  “God can do it!”

Faith says, “Jesus Christ DID IT… It is finished… and I have it!

A person in mental assent sounds like someone of faith. They quote all of the scriptures as truth, but when affliction and persecution arise for the word’s sake, they wither… having no depth.

…or when the cares of this life arise, the word is choked out, because they cannot see it fruitful in their life. (Mk 4:1-20)

The WORD is thus qualified or disqualified by their experience.

What they SEE,  nullifies the Word of the Lord.

BUT… “The kingdom of God cometh not with observation… it is within you! (Lk 17:20-21)

REMEDY:

Hear the Word and do it!

And you will be “like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.”  (Lk 6:47-48)
