Isaiah 53 Revisited
Isaiah 53 REVISITED
Isaiah53:1
“Who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?”
“Was MY ARM too short to deliver you?
Do I lack the strength to rescue you?” (Isa50:2)
“Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel—thus you shall say to your masters: ‘I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are on the ground, by MY great power and by MY outstretched ARM, and have given it to whom it seemed proper to Me” (Jer27:4,5)
“…they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword,
Nor did their own arm save them;
But it was Your right hand, YOUR ARM, and the light of Your countenance,
Because You favored them” (Ps44:3)
Verse 2 references the Messiah, the tender plant… the ROOT from which EVERYTHING else comes.
Verse3 – “HE is despised and rejected by men,
· A Man of SORROWS (anguish, affliction, PAIN)
· and acquainted with GRIEF (translated: malady, anxiety, calamity, DISEASE. (IS) SICKNESS)
Isaiah 53:4 says in PAST TENSE: “He HAS BORNE our “GRIEFS” (DISEASE/ SICKNESS) and CARRIED our “SORROWS” (PAIN)”
BUT… “we did not esteem what HE DID,
…despising and hiding our faces from Him” (end of verse3)
Verse 4 continues…
“stricken,
smitten of God,
AND AFFLICTED (abased, depressed, defiled).”
WHO smote Him with all the sickness, disease and pain?
Verse 10,
· “Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise (crush/ oppress) him;
· HE hath put him to GRIEF [again, as above: sickness/disease]
“…and with HIS stripes we ARE HEALED.” [Isa53:5; 1Pet2:24 WERE HEALED]
WHY did God smite Jesus Christ with ALL of our sickness, disease, and pain?
“For God so loved…
that He gave His only begotten Son” (Jn3:16)
“He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” (Ps107:20)
(Ps103:2-5)…
“Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
· Who forgives ALL your iniquities,
· Who heals ALL your diseases,
· Who redeems your life from destruction,
· Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
· Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
So…
WHOSE REPORT DO WE REALLY BELIEVE?
