GETHSEMANE

GETHSEMANE

“GETHSEMANE” is derived from two Hebrew words.

Gath – a treading out; a vat or place where fruit is placed and pressure applied until the essence, juice, or oil comes out.

Shemen – anointing, fruitful, richness, oil

It is interesting that Adam fell to temptation and disobedience…

In the garden.

It was as though Christ, the LAST ADAM, had to  go to the original point of sin to give us a “do-over”!.

IN A GARDEN…

We are often brought back to a place in our lives where we have the opportunity to RE-make the decision to follow or not follow… obey or not obey…  the voice of our Father.

Jonah rebelled and was headed on a ship in the opposite direction, when cast overboard and was swallowed “by a great fish.”  Instead of being taken to the shore of God’s destination,  the fish spat him out in a place where he still had to make the decision “to go to Nineveh”

The Father’s desire is not to remove our ability to choose.

When presenting  us with a choice between death and life… He gives every opportunity to CHOOSE LIFE! (Deut 30:19)

Isaiah 53:11–12

“He shall see of the travail of his SOUL and shall be satisfied:

by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many;

For  he shall bear their iniquities…

because he hath poured out his SOUL unto death:”

So… where did the Father “see the travail of His SOUL” (psuche – mind, will, emotions)?

Where did Christ sweat “great drops of blood” agonizing about following through with His Father’s purpose? (Lk 22:44)

What was the knowledge Christ had that “justified many”?

We are justified BY THE FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST (Gal 2:16)

Even though in GETHSEMANE,

a place of intense pressure to find ANY OTHER WAY,

HE KNEW that to lay down HIS LIFE… His soul (psuche: mind, will, emotions, ambitions, desires, goals)…

AND SUBMIT TO HIS FATHER

was the ONLY WAY

 TO LIVE…

bring life

and that more abundantly.

FINALLY…

After three torturous hours…

with great resolve you hear Him say,

“OK, BOYS… IT’S TIME… LETS DO THIS!”
