Don’t Be Entangled

Ever feel like you are so wrapped up in the day to day grind that your are just existing..  and not really living?

In order “that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus” (Phil 3:12), during the last 40 plus years of spiritual warfare my Heavenly Father has periodically reminded me of the following scripture:

2Tim:2:4

No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

Using the definitions of the Greek words, one could break down that verse to say:

“No man involved in a military campaign,

entwines himself with the pragmatics

of the present state of his existence or livelihood…

so he may execute to the full extent

the apostolate…

the war to which he was commissioned as a soldier…

with its arduous duties and functions

contending with carnal inclinations,

thus pleasing his recruiter…

the one who chose him in the beginning.”

I get so wrapped up in the daily operation of “life” that I forget the purpose for which I was chosen by Christ.

It is like HE plants that seed of purpose in me, but I let “the cares of this world,  the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things enter in… choking that word, and it becometh unfruitful”.

(Mk 4:14-19)

While running “this race of life” it’s not so much that our eye gets OFF THE PRIZE…

BUT…

we change what we perceive AS THE PRIZE.

“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize?

So run, that ye may obtain.”  (1 Cor 9:24)

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended:

but this one thing I do…

forgetting those things which are behind,

and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

I press toward the mark FOR THE PRIZE of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Phil 3:13-14)

“I therefore so run,

not as uncertainly;

so fight I,

not as one that beateth the air.” (1 Cor 9:26)
