Be Not Dismayed
BE NOT DISMAYED
“… Be strong and of a good courage;
Fear not…
neither be thou dismayed..
for the LORD your God is with you
wherever you go”
(Josh 1:9).
Do you suppose it is a coincidence that “fear not” is used 365 times in the Bible?
Do you imagine that God was so confused by our calendar, but accidentally gave us that reminder every single day of our year?
And it is often joined with:
“… and neither be DISMAYED.”
“DISMAYED”: to beat down, break down and prostrate, either by violence, confusion, or fear.
It is intended to paint a mental image of something causing you to become prostrate,
immobilized by intimidation… with no ability to stand.
“Therefore their inhabitants were of small power
they were dismayed
and confounded…
They were as the vegetation of the field and as the green herb,
As grass on the housetops is scorched before it is grown up.
(Isa37:27)
BUT!!!
“Fear not; for I am with you:
be not dismayed; for I am your God:
I will strengthen you;
I will help you;
I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness” (Isa41:10)
“…be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words… nor be dismayed at their looks…” (Eze2:6;3:9)
“Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed… for there be more with us than with him” (2Chron32:7)
Regardless of what you see, even in the face of overwhelming odds or circumstances, don’t let yourself become hopeless… figuring it’s not worth the fight… then lay down and quit.
“Be on the alert,
stand firm in the faith,
act like men,
be strong.
(1Cor16:13NASB)
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God,
that you may be able to withstand in the evil day,
and having done all,
TO STAND.
STAND THEREFORE…”
(Eph6:13-14)
“Why are you in despair, O my soul?
Why have you become restless and disquieted within me?
Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him,
for I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.” (PS42:11amp)
And David encouraged himself in the Lord. (1Sam30:6)
