A Still, Small Voice


 

A STILL, SMALL VOICE

 

 

1Ki19:9

Then he came to a cave and lodged there… and the LORD said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

 

 

Have you ever felt like you’ve been running from something trying to destroy you and now you’re 

in a cave…

On a mountain…

Terrified…

alone…

…wondering what you are doing there…?

 

You want to hear the voice of God…

See His power manifested…

…and feel His presence?

 

1Ki19:11-13

Then He said, "Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD." 

 

And behold, the LORD passed by, 

 

and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains 

and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, 

BUT THE LORD WAS NOT IN THE WIND;

 

and after the wind… 

an earthquake, 

BUT THE LORD WAS NOT IN THE EARTHQUAKE; 

 

and after the earthquake… 

a fire, 

BUT THE LORD WAS NOT IN THE FIRE; 

 

and after the fire… 

A STILL, SMALL VOICE.

 

…when Elijah heard it, 

 

(he) went out and stood in the entrance of the cave.” 

 

[Fear left… and he came out of hiding]

 

 

Sometimes it is so hard to stay attuned to that STILL, SMALL VOICE. 

 

 

…that “word behind you saying, ‘this is the way… walk in IT’” (Isa30:21)

 

 

1Cor14:10

There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.

 

Every voice vying for attention…

All trying to break into pieces everything you thought was rock-solid…

…shaking all that can be shaken

…attempting to burn whatever we have to the ground…

…to strike terror into our hearts and keep us dismayed (laying prostrate and immobilized with fear)

 

 

Isa9:5

For EVERY BATTLE of the warrior 

is with CONFUSED NOISE, 

and garments rolled in blood…

 

 

1Cor14:11

“Therefore, if I know not the meaning of the voice…”

 

The Greek word translated “meaning” is “dunamis” – abundant, mighty, violent, miraculous ability and working power!

 

 

If I don’t know the dunamis of the voice…

…Even A STILL, SMALL VOICE…

 

“…I shall be unto him that speaks a barbarian, 

and he that speaks shall be a barbarian unto me.”

 

 

We KNOW the dunamis of the voice of our King

…the voice that shakes both Heaven and Earth (Heb12:26-29)

We KNOW HIM…

…that He upholds ALL THINGS by the word of his dunamis  (Heb1:3)

 

 

(Jn10:1-3) “WE ARE HIS SHEEP…

 

WE DO HEAR HIS VOICE…

 

 

…AND ANOTHER WE WILL NOT FOLLOW!”

FORMING YOUR WORLD

  Forming Your World     Have you been in a place in life where you feel like your world has no form, reason, nor rationale to it… like it is void of meaning or direction… and it seems like the darkness is so deep and thick that you not only can't see, but are so disoriented you have no clue as to which way is up?     How do you get out of THAT?     Gen1:1-2 describes just that scenario, but on a grand universal scale: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. CONVICTION

  CONVICTION   I have frequently heard the phrase, “the Holy Spirit CONVICTED me”… or… “I was CONVICTED by the Lord”.  As a young boy I was taught that God was this big eye in the sky continually watching to see if I was being good… and the Holy Spirit, being on my shoulder, would  speak in my ear to bring that guilt… shaming me back to the right path.the moment I stepped out of line   But… why did Jesus send the Holy Spirit to us?     In  Jn16:7 Christ calls the Holy Spirit “ THE COMFORTER ”. He uses the term, “ parakletos ”, which was used in NT times of an  attorney (lawyer)… someone  giving evidence that stands up in court .   It comes from two words: “ para ” (close-beside), and “ kaleo ” (make a call).
