Two Kinds of Patience
TWO KINDS OF PATIENCE
Patience" is mainly translated from 2 Greek words:
1. “hupomone"...
James 1:3-4
"…the trying of your faith worketh PATIENCE.
But let PATIENCE have her perfect work,
that ye may be:
perfect
entire,
wanting nothing".
Hupomone - constant, cheerful, consistency
The trying of your faith works this type of patience in you until you become unshakable and immovable.
THEN… “CONSTANT, CHEERFUL, CONSISTENCY” works something in YOU!…
…a perfect work…
so you may live "perfect, entirely whole, and wanting for nothing”
2. The second word translated “patience” is
"makrothumia",
“That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and PATIENCE inherit the promises.” (Heb 6:12)
So this passage lets us know that PATIENCE is an integral part of an equation to inherit ALL the promises of God!
“Makrothumia” is usually translated “LONGSUFFERING”. But it is not the same as our contemporary understanding of that word.
We think that "long suffering" means to just grit your teeth and bear the suffering.
But… this Greek word paints a different picture.
Makrothumia - , "makro" means long or enduring, and "thumos" means intense, fiery passion.
Here we continue to the end with the same intense, fiery passion with which we began.
It is a persistent, steadfast, unwavering, intense, fiery passion ignited from the beginning that is never extinguished.
This combination of MAKROTHUMIA
AND FAITH [the substance and evidence now of things usually only hoped for and not seen]
Causes us to inherit the promises
“PATIENCE” in the Kingdom of our Father is never passive.
It is a mindset… a place from which you see and therefore approach all of life.
It is a fire, shut up in your bones (Jer 20:9) because of something your Father said, giving you purpose and direction.
A fire was birthed in you… now continue with a constant, cheerful, consistency.
No more hiding it
No more letting the enemy blow it out…
“That is why I remind you to FAN INTO FLAME the gracious gift of God, [that inner fire--the special endowment]…
(2 Tim 1:6 AMP)
LET YOUR FLAME BRIGHTLY BURN!!!
