SAVED
Are you SAVED?
Through modern evangelical teachings we have simply understood that to be “saved" means that one's wages of sin has been been paid by Christ, and instead of spending eternity in Hell, we are now going to be with Him in Heaven.
That may be true.
HOWEVER…
THERE IS MORE GOOD NEWS!!!
In the New Covenant established through Christ, and sealed in His blood, the term “saved" means so much more than a “get out of Hell free" card.
The Greek word translated “saved" in the New Testament is “SOZO"…
EVERY TIME!
It has such a broad meaning…
and is used to draw a picture in the reader's mind encompassing EVERY aspect of the intended purpose behind the use of the word.
“SOZO” is defined – even sometimes translated - as:
· to be delivered (from spiritual or physical death),
· to set free (liberated),
· to be healed (in health),
· to cure,
· to prosper,
· to get on well,
· To be victorious,
· To be rescued (from danger, destruction, injury, peril),
· To be preserved,
· To keep safe and sound,
· to protect,
· to make (be made) WHOLE!
· to save (provided as an accomplished fact)
So….
When you read verses like:
· Romans 10:9 “…If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be SAVED.”
· Matthew 24:13 “He that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be SAVED.”
· Acts 16:31 “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be SAVED….”
· Luke 7:50 “Thy faith hath SAVED thee….”
· Hebrews 7:25 “…Wherefore he is able also to SAVE them to the uttermost that come unto God by him”
…Or any other verse containing “SAVED" or “SAVE"…
… the writer is not just letting the reader know that his sins are forgiven.
BUT ALSO…
“YOU ARE COMPLETE IN HIM…” (Col 2:10)
With one single word, “SOZO”, he unveils the depth of the New Covenant… the perspective of Christ… and encapsulates the thought, intent, purpose and motive behind the very last thing The Messiah proclaimed on the cross……..
IT IS FINISHED!!!
