THE PRESENT TRUTH

 

 

2Pet1:12NKJV “For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in THE PRESENT TRUTH.”

 

 

What does Peter mean when he says that we already “KNOW AND ARE ESTABLISHED IN THE PRESENT TRUTH”?

 

Greek authors from Homer down use this word “pareimi” to mean: to be by, be at hand, TO HAVE ARRIVED, to be present, to be ready, in store, at command.

So, by definition the phrase would read:

“the truth which you now hold in store Is at your command,

so that there is no need of words to call it to your remembrance

…BECAUSE YOU HAVE ARRIVED!”

 

 

And what are “these things” which are THE PRESENT TRUTH?

They are stated in the preceding 10 verses:

1Pet1:2-11TPT

·       You are NOT FORGOTTEN,

·       You HAVE BEEN CHOSEN AND DESTINED by Father God.

·       The Holy Spirit HAS SET YOU APART to be God’s holy ones,

·       You HAVE BEEN GLORIOUSLY SPRINKLED with His blood.

·       God’s delightful GRACE AND PEACE CASCADES over you many times over!

·       EVERYTHING we could ever need for life and godliness

HAS ALREADY BEEN DEPOSITED in us by His divine power.

For all this WAS LAVISHED upon us

through the rich experience of knowing Him

·        He HAS CALLED US by name

AND INVITED US to come to Him

 

·       As a result of this,

HE HAS GIVEN US magnificent promises that are beyond all price,

so that through the power of these tremendous promises

WE CAN experience partnership with the divine nature,

by which YOU HAVE ESCAPED the corrupt desires that are of the world.

·       So, devote yourselves to lavishly supplementing your faith with goodness,

…to goodness add understanding,

…to understanding add the strength of self-control,

…to self-control add patient endurance,

…to patient endurance add godliness,

…to godliness add mercy toward your brothers and sisters,

…to mercy toward others add unending love.

·       SINCE these virtues ARE ALREADY PLANTED deep within,

AND YOU POSSESS THEM IN ABUNDANT SUPPLY,

they will keep you from being inactive or fruitless

in your pursuit of knowing Jesus Christ more intimately.

·       But if anyone lacks these things,

he is blind…

…forgetting HIS INNOCENSE—

FOR HIS PAST SINS HAVE BEEN WASHED AWAY

·       For this reason…

be eager to confirm and validate that God HAS INVITED YOU to salvation

AND CLAIMED YOU as his own.

·       As a result,

the kingdom’s gates OPEN WIDE to you

AS GOD CHOREOGRAPHS YOUR TRIUMPHANT ENTRANCE

into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior,

Jesus the Messiah.

 

 

THIS IS THE ESTABLISHED TRUTH OF WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE!

FORMING YOUR WORLD

  Forming Your World     Have you been in a place in life where you feel like your world has no form, reason, nor rationale to it… like it is void of meaning or direction… and it seems like the darkness is so deep and thick that you not only can't see, but are so disoriented you have no clue as to which way is up?     How do you get out of THAT?     Gen1:1-2 describes just that scenario, but on a grand universal scale: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. CONVICTION

  CONVICTION   I have frequently heard the phrase, “the Holy Spirit CONVICTED me”… or… “I was CONVICTED by the Lord”.  As a young boy I was taught that God was this big eye in the sky continually watching to see if I was being good… and the Holy Spirit, being on my shoulder, would  speak in my ear to bring that guilt… shaming me back to the right path.the moment I stepped out of line   But… why did Jesus send the Holy Spirit to us?     In  Jn16:7 Christ calls the Holy Spirit “ THE COMFORTER ”. He uses the term, “ parakletos ”, which was used in NT times of an  attorney (lawyer)… someone  giving evidence that stands up in court .   It comes from two words: “ para ” (close-beside), and “ kaleo ” (make a call).
