IF I WERE KING

IF I WERE KING

There is a scene in The Wizard of Oz where the cowardly lion sings,

If I… were kiiiiinnnnngggg… of the forresssst…..!!!

It seems as though of late I have heard, “if it were mine, I would have done it this way.”… or… “that police chief is an idiot… I would tell them to ____.”… or… “My boss has no idea of how to run a business...  We should be_____.”

We always have a better idea of how it should be done and for some reason are all too free with our opinion of how someone else should be doing it…

UNTIL… we are actually in the place of authority… then the insecurity really kicks in. We become paralyzed by fear of failure or doing it wrong and end up making poor judgement calls at every turn.

“For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” (Mtt7:2-5NKJV)

We say, “IF I WERE KING…” and then arrogantly sit back and “look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye.”(Mtt7:3NKJV)

Matthew goes on to say,

“…how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.” (Mtt7:4-5NKJV)

It is always easier being the armchair quarterback letting everyone know how it should be done from the safety and security of our recliner, than it is to be in the battle out in the middle of the field in real time making the decisions.

Out of our inherent love for others, we should find ourselves “doing nothing from selfish ambition or vain glory, but with humility of mind regarding one another as more important than yourselves….” (Phil2:3-4LSB)

1Cor14:26KJV “Let all things be done unto edifying.”

Rom14:19-20TPT “So then, make it your top priority to live a life of peace with harmony in your relationships, eagerly seeking to strengthen and encourage one another.

Stop ruining the work of God by insisting on your own opinions…”

Rom15:5,6NKJV “Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

I should always seek to build YOU up… rather than thinking I would do so much better…

                        “…IF I WERE KING…”
