LED IN THE SPIRIT

LED IN THE SPIRIT

Paul wrote to the Romans something he had learned through his time walking with the Lord: “…all who are LED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD are sons of God.” (Rom8:14AMPC)

There seemed to be a progression in Paul’s life as the Lord was teaching him the process of being Led in the spirit, and it plays out sequentially in the book of Acts.

Paul already knew what to do as a believer… heal the sick, raise the dead, preach the Kingdom of God everywhere… and… if someone asks for help… go and do so to the best of your ability.

He was on a zealous mission to spread the gospel as far as he could…

“They passed through the Phrygian and Galatian region, HAVING BEEN FORBIDDEN BY THE HOLY SPIRIT to speak the word in Asia; and after they came to Mysia,

they were trying to go into Bithynia, and

THE SPIRIT OF JESUS DID NOT PERMIT THEM;” (Acts16:6-7NASB95)

[did not permit: prevented, restrained, stood in the way, hindered, forbade, withheld ability to do so]

…“So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas.

During the night, Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and pleading with him, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us.’

As soon as Paul had seen the vision, we got ready to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.” (Acts16:8-10)

A shift happened in the above passage.

Up until now Paul was following a mandate to take the Gospel to the Gentiles (Acts9:15-16;Acts13:46) [except where CONSTRAINED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT].

NOW he was DIRECTED BY THE SPIRIT through a vision.

So, rather than being COMPELLED BY COMMISSION, he was learning as a son of God to be LED IN THE SPIRIT

         THE PROCESS:

·       Acts17:16 “…He was STIRRED IN THE SPIRIT, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.”

[STIRRED - sharpened, stimulated, provoked, irritated, spurring someone to action]

·       Acts18:5 He was PRESSED IN THE SPIRIT and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.”

[PRESSED: - devoted, occupied, seized, confined, urged, impelled, pressed on every side]

·       Acts18:25 “…and being FERVENT IN THE SPIRIT he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord.”

[FERVENT: – to show great zeal; be ardently passionate (literally "boiling" with interest or desire); "to set one's heart upon with complete intent”]

·       Acts19:21 “After these things were ended, Paul PURPOSED IN THE SPIRIT…”
[PURPOSED: - placed, laid, set, fixed, established]

·       Acts20:22 “And now, behold, I go BOUND IN THE SPIRIT unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:”

[BOUND:– tied, bound, compelled, impelled, fastened with chains.]

We undergo the same process…

At first we are STIRRED IN SPIRIT toward something… eventually becoming PRESSED IN SPIRIT to follow through with it... Now FERVENT IN SPIRIT, we PURPOSE IN SPIRIT to do whatever it is we were PRESSED TO DO.

We are finally BOUND IN SPIRIT with the PURPOSE of Christ… watching for the slightest change of breath from our Father…

…so, we are…

…LED IN THE SPIRIT.
