Intercessory Prayer
INTERCESSORY PRAYER
What is “INTERCESSORY PRAYER”?
Over the years it has morphed into something unrecognizable from what was written in the Word of God.
Our evolving religious traditions have rendered it progressively ineffective and powerless, conforming it into a title, position, or ministry… serving our own egos in order to acquire what WE desire from the Lord…
BUT… let's take a look at what scripture says about INTERCESSION.
1Tim2:1 “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, INTERCESSIONS and giving of thanks, be made for all men;”
1Tim4:4-5 “…nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude; for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and PRAYER.”
The word translated as “INTERCESSION” and “PRAYER” in the above verses is:
Enteuxis – translated as a petition, supplication, prayer, or intercession; and is a combination of two Greek words:
1. "en" – properly, in (inside, within)," as in the condition (state) in which something operates from the inside (within)
2. and the root word: "tygxánō" which means "to strike, hit the bulls-eye" ("spot on").
[it is used in classical Greek as the antonym of harmartia ("to miss the mark, sin")]
Hmmm… that reminds me of Phil2:13
“for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”
The following verses then use the verb (action) form of “enteuxis”:
“entygxano”…
Rom8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”
The Holy Spirit works within us for our benefit so that we strike the bulls-eye of God’s will and purpose in every spect of our life.
Rom8:34 “…It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.”
In fact, HE EVER LIVES to make intercession for us. (Heb7:25)
Get this!... The literal translation of Rom8:27: “The [One] now searching the hearts knows what [is] the mindset of the Spirit, because according to God He intercedes for [the] saints”
1Cor2:9-13 goes on to explain… The Holy Spirit communicates the deep things of God with our spirit so we may know HIS heart on the matter
WOW!
So… INTERCESSION is NOT to move the hand nor change the mind of a reluctant God.
Rather… by definition it IS…
Through an intimate exchange, God works within you to strike the bulls-eye concerning His will and purpose, THEN speaking for HIM (what HE believes) into the situation, person, or circumstance.
Jn12:50 “…just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.”
