IMAGES IN HIGH PLACES

 

 

Num33:50-53AMPC

“When you have passed over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, 

THEN YOU SHALL:

·       drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you

·       destroy all their figured stones

·       destroy all their molten IMAGES

·       completely demolish all their [IDOLATROUS] HIGH PLACES, 

·       take possession of the land and dwell in it, for to you I have given the land to possess it.”

 

 

Where were the people of God going?

Canaan – the Land of Promise!

 

 

2Cor10:3-7 instructs where our warfare is, what we are fighting, and how to possess our land. 

 

·       Vs3 we don't war after the flesh. 

·       Vs4 reminds: “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds”

·       Vs5 what strongholds we fight…

“Casting down IMAGINATIONS, and every HIGH THING that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity EVERY THOUGHT to the obedience of Christ;”

 

 

Imaginations - logismós  – properly, "bottom-line" reasoning that reflects someone's values, i.e. how they personally assign weight in determining what they find reasonable. 

 

 

Throughout our lifetime we have formed IMAGES of how we believe life should be. 

 

How a career should be…

How people should be…

Where I should be in life by now…

What my life should be…

What my spouse is to be and act like… 

How spiritual they SHOULD BE. 

 

 

And if those things don’t align with THE IMAGES WE HAVE FASHIONED…

…what we IMAGINED…

…we hold what we currently see…

in contempt and judgement. 

 

 

BUT…

 

 

Who told you that was the way it “should be”?

…helping hew out those idolatrous expectations?

 

 

Ex34:13

“But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:”

 

 

So, as you enter to possess YOUR land of inheritance…

…where ALL promises are yes, and amen to those who believe (2Cor1:20),

 

 

…REMEMBER:

 

·       “Put on the full armor of God” (Heb6:11-18)

·       Your “weapons are mighty through God” (2Cor10:4)

·       “Lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us” (Heb12:1)

·       “Put aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness”.(Jas1:21)

·       “Cast down all IMAGINATIONS and every HIGH THING exalting itself against the knowledge of God” (2Cor10:3-5)

  THE DAILY LOAD   “Blessed be the Lord Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation! Selah” (Ps68:19)   The word, “selah” is used throughout the Psalms and other Hebrew music and poetry as a notation similar to “a rest” in our modern music.   The Perfect Will of God   Rom12:2  “…Do not be CONFORMED to this WORLD , but be TRANSFORMED by the RENEWING of your MIND , that you may PROVE WHAT IS that GOOD and ACCEPTABLE and PERFECT WILL OF GOD .”   I was always taught that there were three different WILLS of God… And you are placed in one WILL or another determined by your maturity level, your faith, and your closeness to God.   However… let's dissect this verse to clearly see the intent behind each part.   ·        CONFORMED – properly means: assuming a similar  outward  form (expression) by following the same  pattern  (model, mold). ·        WORLD - properly, an  age  ( era , "time-span"),  characterized by a specific quality  (type) of existence ·        TRANSFORMED - metamorphóō - changing form or shape in keeping with a transformed inner reality...
