Debriefing
DEBRIEFING
One of the most important parts of any military campaign is the time spent AFTER every mission discovering the successes and failures, subsequently adjusting the strategy to effectively and efficiently gain the ultimate goal of victory
Definition: A series of questions (typically to a soldier or spy) about a completed mission or undertaking.
Though currently rarely used in the body of Christ, nevertheless, it is invaluable for our training, discipleship, and continuation of the Kingdom of God.
Mark 4:34 ...But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.
Jesus Christ initiated this type of training with his disciples.
To the crowds he would speak in parables, but to the ones with whom He was intimately imparting the way of life of our Father, He spoke plainly (Mtt13; Mk4; Jn16:25)
Over the years I have noticed that the most valuable times of personal discipleship, growth and understanding comes AFTER the meeting, mission, teaching, or assignment.
This DEBRIEFING became an open time of asking honest questions to discover where we followed the "choreography” of Jesus Christ... and... frankly... where we may have departed from His purpose and work HE desired to accomplish.
"…they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with (“them” is not in Greek), and confirming the word with signs following." (Mk16:20)
It is important to have the WORD AND THE SPIRIT... to minister BOTH… allowing The Spirit to do the WORK in the lives of the people the WORD just exposed.
DEBRIEFING is the most powerful tool of learning "how" to effect this concerted balance of WORD/SPIRIT.
Whether it be on the trip home, at lunch the next day, or even via phone conversation…
Whatever and whenever it is…
It is most effective when done as soon as possible while the experience is still fresh in the memory.
It helps maintaining clarity of vision and purpose, not only corporately, but in our personal walk, as well.
It has been aptly described as: “an after-mission PAUSE AND REFLECT”
OR…As David, a great warrior/king, strategically stated throughout Psalms…
SELAH!
