Martha, Martha

MARTHA, MARTHA   “Oh, no!!!... company is here!  I have to make sure everything is clean… Is there enough drink and sufficient food for everyone!... Is everyone comfortable?... I wonder if it is too hot in here?... Oh!!! Did I put toilet paper in the bathroom?!?   Luke 10 describes such a scenario.  Martha became “cumbered about MUCH serving” because “THE MASTER IS HERE” and things MUST be done!  [“cumbered about” meaning: “to drag all around, distracted with care and overly concerned on the unimportant.”]   SERVING IS GREAT! …“Cumbered about MUCH serving” …not so much.   The set-up in Verse 38 is very important: “…Martha RECEIVED him into her house.”  The word translated here “RECEIVED” usually describes welcoming individuals into one’s home or community, often emphasizing hospitality. 20/20 VISION

20/20 VISION   They say, “hindsight is 20/20”. Is it because as we get older, we tend to accidentally SIT ON OUR GLASSES more frequently? They were LOOKING BACK in sorrow, SEEING things only in light of THEIR CONCEPT of what a king was and what his kingdom would be.    It was the end of an era… They had lost the battle… Their leader was gone… NOW WHAT?   They were so FOCUSED on the past and their expectations, they could not SEE their way into the future.   20:20 John: Jesus APPEARED to them, “…He SHOWED them His hands and ...

ADAM, WHERE ARE YOU?

ADAM… WHERE ARE YOU?     Genesis 2:25 “And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were NOT ASHAMED.”   The Hebrew verb "bosh" [pronounced “boosh”] primarily conveys the sense of being ashamed or feeling shame. It often implies a sense of disappointment or embarrassment… feeling downcast… particularly in the context of unmet expectations or failure.     “GUILT is when you feel you've done something wrong. SHAME is when you feel there is something wrong with you.”                                                                                   ...
